  • The Club owns (8) Midland GTX1000VP4 radios, a set of two for each of the four hiking groups.
  • The Board encourages each hike leader and sweep to carry one in addition to the First Aid Kit. Radios can be signed out on the designated clipboard.
  • Each group’s radios will be in a ziplock bag labeled with the Group name along with simple instructions for use.
  • At the end of the hike, return both the First Aid Kit and the Radios to the locked supply cabinet at Gateway. Make sure the radios are turned OFF.
  • Harriet Schwartz will be down at Gateway by 8:20 each hike day to demo how to use them. If you are leaving earlier, email or call Harriet to make other arrangements at 201-563-6019.

To use the radios:

  • Hold the radio with the buttons facing you.

  • Turn the KNOB on the top clockwise all the way to turn on the radio.

  • PRESS and HOLD the PUSH TO TALK BUTTON on the left of the radio to speak.

  • Release the PUSH TO TALK button to hear the other person.

  • When returning, make sure the radios are turned OFF.
